This role is eligible for our hybrid work model: Two days in-office.

Reporting into the CTO, with a seat on the engineering leadership team, this role will be charged with driving the technical strategy for Priceline's award-winning IOS and Android apps. 

The Vice President of Mobile Engineering works closely with peers in the product organization, alongside business stakeholders from across the company, to set the architectural direction for the mobile apps and the mobile platform.  

The Vice President is a people leader of people leaders, and is responsible for managing directors of engineering, engineering managers, and technical leaders, as well as software and testing engineers of all levels.  In addition, the this person is responsible for defining, adopting, implementing and maintaining engineering and process best practices with the assistance of the organization's senior technical leadership.

In this role you will:

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the mobile apps

  • Refine and execute on a vision for a mobile platform

  • Coach, mentor and support a highly effective team of passionate engineers fostering a high-performance culture.

  • Be responsible for ensuring that the shared product vision and business goals are realized through excellence in execution

  • Be a part of the senior technical staff, working in an interdisciplinary manner with your peers in other departments

  • Enable a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation and excellence while continuously elevating the quality and caliber of our engineering organization

  • Recruit world-class engineering talent and participate in the process including attracting, screening, and closing high caliber candidates.

  • Participate in strategic planning meetings with product management, architecture and design

  • Contribute to technical engineering designs, resource management and implementations

  • Manage the delivery of software using Agile best practices

  • Help solve complex software engineering tasks, while maintaining high engineering standards and practices

  • Measure, manage and optimize key metrics such as velocity, estimation accuracy and defect counts

  • Communicate effectively with your team members, your peers, and your internal and external customers

  • Administer budgets including Training, Travel, Morale, Contractor and Compensation

  • Work closely with the CTO and the senior leadership on department- and company-wide initiatives.

Who you are:

  • 10+ Years in Software Engineering 

  • 3+ Years managing Managers of Managers

  • Demonstrated experience building high-scale and highly optimized customer-centric mobile and web applications

  • Proven experience in building and optimizing geographically dispersed teams 

  • A track record of creating innovative solutions to challenging problems.  A willingness to challenge assumptions and negotiate solutions. 

  • Experience creating and defining developer enablement strategies, especially in a mobile context

  • Experience with and exposure to a wide array of mobile technologies, such as  Android, Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Swift, and SwiftUI.  Experience with modern web technologies (React, Vue, SolidJS, Svelte, etc. ) a plus

  • Technical expertise that enables meaningful conversations with product architects & engineers

  • Knowledge of release management and deployment workflow processes, particularly with the nuances of app store deployment 

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build productive cross-departmental relationships and motivate team members.

There are a variety of factors that go into determining a salary range, including but not limited to external market benchmark data, geographic location, and years of experience sought/required. In addition to a competitive base salary, certain roles may be eligible for an annual bonus and/or equity grant.

The salary range for this position is $240,000-$300,000.
