The Data Engineering Architect will be a member of a Data Engineering team which provides data and process support across the entire company including our travel products, customer service, marketing and finance
This primary purpose of the role is to develop data solutions for the company’s embedded and decentralized business line analysts, data scientists and machine learning groups.
The role may include . developing solutions to integrate new products into existing structures, determining the usefulness of data sets for use in ML processes or developing complex data sets for use in reporting or analytics. Other responsibilities would include researching new technologies and capabilities in the data space, developing documentation for users of new data sources, and educating others on data sources, access techniques and other capabilities.
The Data Engineering Architect must be proficient in SQL (Preferably Oracle), have experience with one or more reporting tools (preferably Tableau, OBIEE, etc.), and demonstrate knowledge of data design, source to . target specifications, prototyping data sets, process analysis, and critical thinking skills. The position also requires performing in depth ad-hoc data analysis and the ability to organize, integrate, and analyze large amounts of data both for operational support as well as for quality assurance and solution design purposes.
The position must have an understanding of the capabilities that exist across various technologies such Relational DBs, Hadoop, Cloud DBs, etc.
The Data Engineering Architect should be able to demonstrate initiative in learning existing and new tools, subject areas, business processes, and technologies. As Priceline’s technology base increasingly includes
“Big Data” and “Cloud”, this position should have some experience in these areas.
Required Skills and Experience
In-Depth, hands on SQL development, with Oracle, but other technologies/implementations are OK.
Strong analytical skills to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts,
decompose high-level information into details, and abstract up from low-level information to a more general
Should be assertive, persuasive, and be able to assume a leadership role in implementing solutions.
Able to bridge business and technical domains with an interest/ability to learn new technologies and
business models, and subject areas.
Experience working with business customers understanding both stated and unstated requirements.
Eliciting, organizing, and then translating and simplifying requirements.
Experience with one or more reporting tools. (Tableau or Oracle OBIEE preferred).
Ideally, candidate should have experience in one or more of the following; Machine Learning, Business
Forecasting, Customer Analysis, Travel Industry, Web Site Analysis, or Management Reporting.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including some technical writing skills.
Strong need for completion, with an ability to work around/through impediments.
Committed to high quality results with capability to QA own work.
Experience using other programming languages such as Unix Shell scripting or Python, as well as,
knowledge of Data Engineering tools such as Informatica, AirFlow, etc. is a plus.
Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
