Director, Data Engineering Team

Why this job’s a big deal:

The Director, Data Engineering Team will drive all data engineering initiatives for building the next-gen data platform at Priceline. Our mission critical systems handle a large infrastructure that caters to billions of user base across the world.  The Data team at Priceline is excited about working in a petabyte 24*7 environment, collaborative forward thinking approach, and with a sense of urgency provide both internal & external audiences to resolve issues related to performance of our infrastructure. 

In this role you will get to:

  • Lead, coach, motivate, mentor, foster innovation, and staff management of 35+ Data Engineers across multiple geographies while working in an agile environment

  • Drive strategic data initiatives and be responsible for delivering on the goals and commitments of the team.

  • Focus on delivery and execution of multi quarter initiatives 

  • Lead and contribute to design sessions and translate to manageable work components that can be assigned to the team.

  • Collaborate with peers  to design data platform components and ensure the big picture is understood by engineers.

  • Champion for the data team, responsible for employee engagement and job satisfaction.

  • Build recommendation and personalization solutions catered towards customer experience

  • Hire and grow technical talent.

  • Set goals and expectations for every member in the team and provide continuous and meaningful feedback.

  • Mentor and help grow the junior team members.

Who you are:

  • Experience managing a team of 20 or more engineers (preferable in data).

  • 5+ years of relevant data experience.

  • At least 12 -15 years of work experience.

  • Education in Computer Science or related fields.

  • Well versed in Big data technologies and keeps knowledge current.

  • Hands-on experience in Agile software development.

  • Experience in data warehousing, data ingestion, data lake, machine learning and analytics pipelines.

  • Skilled in SQL and Python.

  • Cloud experience is required, preferably on GCP.

  • Familiarity with the following technologies is a plus: Kafka, BigQuery, BigTable, DataProc, GCS, Spark, DataFlow, composer orchestration.

  • Experience migrating on-premises databases and pipelines to the cloud.

  • Must be able to work in a collaborative fashion with scrum team leads based in the US.

  • Excellent communication skills, experience working with US based teams is a must.

  • Experienced people leader.
